AUSTIN, TEXAS – APRIL 2011: Established in 1998, The Bubble recording studio has recently joined the ranks of API 1608 owners across the world. Their new 16-channel 1608 analog console is in good company. The Texas studio already owned an array of API equipment, including a 3124+, four 550b discrete 4-band EQs and two 560 graphic EQs.

"We have been using API gear for a long time," said Alex Lyon, co-owner and co-engineer of The Bubble, "so we knew the sound and build quality were things we liked. We had never heard or seen a 1608, but just knowing it was an API was enough to sell us."

The Bubble, which has recorded artists such as Jet, the Dandy Warhols, and Fastball, was acoustically designed by Mark Genfan at Acoustic Spaces to provide superior sound. According to Lyon, the studio's new console is fitting right in with The Bubble's foundations.

"The first time I played something back through our new desk I was shocked really, because it just sounded so good," he said. "It was a pure, beefy and analog tone. I was actually so happy with the sound that, two weeks later, I bought an API 2500 stereo bus compressor to match. I was also really impressed with the way the console looked – all the pretty LEDs on that thing can't be beat!"

In addition to its main recording space, the facility also boasts the "b-room" – a multi-purpose space that is detached from the main studio and that can be used as an editing or overdubbing room. The Bubble now also offers a mastering service. Both amenities evolved out of The Bubble expanding and moving to a bigger, better and now final location.

"Our first home was a warehouse garage. The second location was a tiny bit less run down, but we would have to turn off the air conditioning to record – not a good thing in Texas," Lyon said. "With our 'final' move, we set out to build a place that would be our home for a long time and everything was done right. Now with the 1608 I feel we can take full advantage of our room and focus more on the music than on the equipment recording it."
